Linking Learning to "Real Life" Experiences

How We Do It

Building Entrepreneur Skills for Tomorrow (BEST) is a collaborative partnership between local schools, EmpowHer Institute and Network for Training Entrepreneurs (NFTE) a community based organization. The purpose of Building Entrepreneur Skills for Tomorrow (BEST)is to provide early intervention and prevention programs to reduce the dropout rate of females in middle and high school girls through teaching entrepreneurial skills to inner city youth in grades 6-12th who are at risk of educational failure, teen pregnancy, truancy and juvenile delinquency. The strategies are designed to encourage youth to create possibilities beyond the hopelessness in their communities.

EmpowHer Institute provides entrepreneurship education programs to young people from low-income communities using a proven program developed by Network for Training Entrepreneurs (NFTE). The strategy for achieving this mission is to: partner with schools, community-based organizations and entrepreneurs; create innovative, experiential curricula; train and support teachers and youth workers; and provide supportive mentors. Since 1987, NFTE has reached nearly 232,000 young people. NFTE currently operates programs in 22 states and 13 countries, and has over 1,300 active Certified Entrepreneurship Teachers.
