Linking Learning to "Real Life" Experiences

EmpowHer Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2003. We understand that when girls and women are empowered, families and communities are empowered.

EmpowHer works with underprivileged girls and women to create opportunities that can improve their social status and living conditions. Our organization focuses on an estimated one in four female students who will not graduate with a regular high school diploma in the standard, four-year time period. In addition, those who are considering a career in business, starting a business, or expanding an existing business.

We believe that skills development opens up the potential for improvements in how girls and young women contribute to the basic needs of their families and communities. The participants develop positive attitudes about themselves and their roles in the community, and explore the potential for meaningful employment and/or starting their own small business enterprise as a viable route out of poverty. This also helps raise their status in society and, in addition to improving their economic position, raises their potential for lifelong learning.

Programs and services offered by EmpowHer Institute include:

Building Entrepreneur Skills for Tomorrow (BEST) a collaborative partnership between local schools, EmpowHer Institute and Network for Training Entrepreneurs (NFTE)

• Linked Learning for the self-employment option for young adults

• Speaker Series for Students

• Mentor support

In addition, participants are offered personal development, life skills,  conflict management, marketing, business development workshops and seminars that focus on entrepreneurial skills development.
